I rarely analyse photographs of Marilyn but this photograph is so significant. At the Actor’s Studio benefit at Roseland Dance Hall in March 1961, Marilyn is appearing at an event that she believes in but she is still out of place. The world is a blur and everything is happening around her, never truly for her. “It’s terrible to be lonesome especially in the middle of a crowd.”
